چکیده

This paper describes an industrial application of case-based reasoning (CBR) in the aluminium die-casting industry: the setting of parameters of a pressure diecasting machine for a specific die. As well as describing the application, the paper shows how the system has evolved. The use of cases has given the system a flexibility which has enabled it to be used in ways that were not foreseen at the outset of the project. The pressure die-casting application is a good example of a common problem: the correct setting of system parameters depending on a set of input values. The paper discusses the general use of CBR for deciding on parameter values, and describes the lessons that have been learned through the construction of the die casting parameter setting system. This paper appeared in the 1 UK Workshop on Case-based Reasoning, January 1995, and an updated version is in Progress in Case-based Reasoning, Ian Watson (ed), pp121133, Springer Verlag 1995.

INTEGRATING CASE-BASED REASONING, KNOWLEDGE-BASED APPROACH AND TSP ALGORITHM FOR MINIMUM TOUR FINDING

Imagine you have traveled to an unfamiliar city. Before you start your daily tour around the city, you need to know a good route. In Network Theory (NT), this is the traveling salesman problem (TSP). A dynamic programming algorithm is often used for solving this problem. However, when the road network of the city is very complicated and dense, which is usually the case, it will take too long fo...

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

Explanation Goals in Case-Based Reasoning

In this paper, we present a short overview of different theories of explanation. We argue that the goals of the user should be taken into account when deciding what is a good explanation for a given CBR system. Some general types relevant to many Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) systems are identified and we use these goals to identify some limitations in using the case as an explanation in CBR systems.

Parameterized Uncertain Reasoning Approach Based on a Lattice-Valued Logic

This paper presents a parameterized reasoning approach with uncertainty based on a lattice-valued logic system. In this uncertain reasoning approach, some parameters are used to represent uncertainty arising from different sources, which is a common phenomenon in rule-based systems. In our system, reasoning with different parameter values means reasoning with different levels of belief and cons...

Similarity Measurement in Interpolative Fuzzy Reasoning

Systems based on interpolative fuzzy reasoning work with sparse rule bases. In case of some input values the system should approximate the output value. Carrying out this task depends on the right selection of the suitable fuzzy similarity measure. The goal of this paper is presenting two of such measures, which are also applied in some interpolation based fuzzy reasoning methods.
